  2. Judy - Here in the Midwest, in lieu of castles, I like to imagine old, stone, ruinous grain silos as our castles - towering remnants of what once was. Some covered in Virginia Creeper and occasionally with trees growing out of the top. They are so ubiquitous here that I think people have ceased to notice them, their place in the landscape, and their charm. I've always wondered if that's how folks abroad feel about a crumbling castle...if they don't quite even register the rubble anymore or if, in fact, they also find them charming as we Americans do who are castle-deprived.
